The Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday arrested deputy inspector general (prisons) of Sylhet range Partha Gopal Banik after it found Tk 80 lakh at his Dhaka’s Kalabagan residence.

An ACC team arrested Partha Gopal conducting a drive at his home, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee told New Age.

He said that earlier on the day, Partha Gopal appeared before the commission’s Segunbagicha head office as he was summoned to face interrogation over corruption allegations against him whilst serving at Chattogram central jail.

ACC director Mohammad Yousuf interrogated Partha Gopal for six hours starting from 10:00am. Later, the commission’s team launched the drive at his Dhaka residence and detained him after seizing the money, the ACC official added.

Partha Gopal recently transferred to Sylhet for Chattogram range. Partha Gopal came under ACC net when a home ministry investigation found involvement of him and 48 others including two senior jail superintendents and seven deputy jailers in graft.

The home ministry launched the investigation to investigate the irregularities of suspended jailer of Chattogram central jail Sohel Rana Biswas.

On October 26, 2018, the Chittagong prison jailer Sohel Rana was arrested in a Mymensingh-bound train in possession of around 44.34 lakh taka in cash, 2.5 crore in FDR, 1.30 crore taka in cash.
