Fakhrul, 3 BNP leaders seek anticipatory bail

Four senior BNP leaders, including its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, on Tuesday filed a petition with the High Court (HC), seeking anticipatory bail in a case filed on charge of threatening AB Siddique, President of Bangladesh Jononetri Parishad.

The names of other bail seekers are Khondaker Mosharraf Hossain, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.

Earlier, on Monday, a Dhaka court issued a warrant to arrest nine leaders and activists of BNP including party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for making threats to AB Siddique.
The Jononetri Parishad president, on the same day, filed a case against the 9 BNP leaders with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder as he was repeatedly receiving death threats through letters.

The accused are– BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advisers Amanullah Aman, Standing Committee member Khondaker Mosharraf Hossain, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, suspended BUET lecturer Hafizur Rahman Rana and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Emdarul Hoque Bhuyan.

AB Siddique alleged that the accused have been threatening him in different ways for several days as he has filed cases against BNP leaders including its party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
