Leaders of Left Democratic Alliance on Wednesday called upon the government to declare dengue situation a disaster as it prevailed across the country and taken a serious turn.
Leaders of the LDA, a combine of eight left parties, at a press conference in Moitri auditorium of the Communist Party of Bangladesh central office, alleged that dengue virus was spreading and more than 110 people reportedly died of the mosquito-borne disease so far as the government failed to take proper initiatives to check the infection that forced over 32,000 patients to be hospitalised.
The coordinator of the combine and also secretary of the United Communist League, Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, announced programmes for dengue control, and protests at the government’s failure to control the situation.
The programmes include sending petition to the prime minster through district and upazila administrations on Thursday, observing cleanliness programmes in Dhaka and across the country on August 9 and 10, the central cleanliness programmes in Dhaka to be started from in front of CPB central office at 11:00am on August 10.
The combine will also observe a ‘demand fortnight’ from August 20 to September 4 across the country, holding rallies and processions.
The alliance will hold divisional and district rallies in September and October demanding early general elections scrapping the Parliament formed, they said, through a farcical general elections on December 30.
Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq, CPB presidium member Abdullah Kafee Ratan, Socialist Party of Bangladesh central leader Bazlur Rashid Firoj, SPB (Marxist) central leader Manash Nandi, Ganosamhati Andolan leader Moniruddin Pappu and Samajtantrik Andolan convener Hamidul Haque also attended the press conference.
