Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the ongoing protests and demands of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology students protesting at the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad.

Addressing a press conference at the party central office in capital’s Naya Paltan, BNP senior joint-secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi expressed the party’s solidarity and demanded arrest of Amit Saha, BUET unit Chhatra League law affairs secretary, whose room was used for torturing Abrar that caused his death.

He said that the case statement did not mention the name of Amit, he was not expelled from BCL and even no punitive step was taken against him.

‘The BUET administration and controversial police officials are now busy with saving him,’ he said.

Rizvi alleged that the government was applying different tricks to calm protesting students when the country’s campuses were witnessing protesting processions and rallies and human chains protesting against murder of BUET student Fahad.

‘Abrar was murdered for giving facebook status protesting at the government’s ant-state deals with India and, that is why, the government could not deny the responsibility of Abrar murder,’ he said.

The BNP leader said that though Awami League or its president Sheikh Hasina could endure their critics to some extent, they could not endure critics of India.

Terming Abrar as the ‘best patriot of the time’, he said that Abrar would remain as the spirit of protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty.
