Candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan won Brahmanbaria-2 constituency after a re-election held in three centres on Wednesday, raising the number seats secured by the main opposition party to six.
The BNP candidate got 83,997 votes and his nearest rival, independent candidate M Moyeen Uddin, got 75, 419 votes with banana symbol in the polls.
The re-election was held at Jatrapur Govt Primary School, Bahadurpur Govt Primary School and Sohagpur Dakkhin Govt Primary School centres after voting was left suspended there due to irregularities on December 30.
Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan got 1,274 votes and Moyeen Uddin got 2,855 votes from this three centres. The total vote was 10,574 in three centres.
The margin of votes between Abdus Sattar and Moyeenuddin was earlier 10,159 votes, which was less than the total 10,574 votes in three centres.
In the 11th parliamentary elections held on December 30, ruling Awami League and its allies got 288 seats while BNP-led alliance has now secured eight out of 299 seats.
Election in another seat was moved to January 27 following death of a candidate.
