Bangladesh’s band music legend Ayub Bachchu died in Square Hosptial in Dhaka on Thursday. He was 56,
He was pronounced dead about 10:00am, the hospital authorities said.
Square Hosptial’s director (medical services) Mirza Nazimuddin told New Age that Bachchu had been taken dead to the hospital. He suspects that cardiac problems might have caused death as Bachchu had been suffering from cardiac complications for long.
Ayub Bachchu was best known as a founding member of the rock band LRB.
Ayub Bachchu has contributed heavily to the development of Bangladeshi rock music. He is popular equally as a singer as well as a guitarist and composer. He dedicated himself to promoting all instrument players of Bangladesh and popularising instrument playing. Jimi Hendrix and Joe Satriani were his inspirations as a guitarist. Ayub Bachchu had his own recording studio at Mogbazar, Dhaka named, AB Kitchen.
Ayub Bachchu made his debut in the music industry by singing the song Harano Bikiler Galpa.
In 1986, he released his first solo album ‘Rakto Golap’. His success story began when his second album ‘Moyna’ was released. His third solo album ‘Kashta’ was released in 1995. The album was super hit and its title song ‘Kashta Pete Bhalobasi’ touched the listeners’ heart very much.
He started his music career there with his own Spider in 1976. He joined Feelings in 1978. From 1980 to 1990, he was a member of Souls as lead guitarist. In 1991, he formed his own band, LRB. LRB released its first album as a double album, which contained hard rock songs like ‘Ghum Bhanga Shahare’ ‘Madhabi’ and ‘Hawker’ ‘ Shesh Cithi keno Eman Cithi hoy’ ‘Happy’ ‘Dhakar Sandhyaa’ Etc. this was first Double Album in Bangla Music History.
In 1993 LRB released their album ‘Sukh’. It contained hard rock, blues, rock songs Like ‘Sukh’ ‘Gotokal rate’ ‘Khaniker Janya’ ‘Cholo Bodle Jai Known as Sei tumi’ ‘Rupali guiter’ etc. ‘Cholo Bodle Jai’ one of the greatest hits in Bangladeshi music era— written and tuned by Bachchu.
Beside Satriani and Hendrix, LRB draws inspirations from rock bands like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Nirvana.
Even though he started out as a rock musician, Bachchu eventually branched out to the more mainstream music of Bangladesh. His first instrumental album was Sound of Silence 2007.
His fans also flooded the social media platform expressing their deepest condolence to the iconic figure of the country’ music industry.
Bachchu performed live with Richard and Le Gang (France), Remo Fernandez, Nandon Bugchi, and Bikram Gosh of India; and Azam Khan (singer), Feelings (now Nogor Baul), Miles, Warfaze and many more.
LRB is the only Bangla rock band which played at famous Madison Square Garden in New York City.
President Abdul Hamid, prime minister Sheikh Hasina, speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and cultural affairs minister Asaduzzman Noor expressed deep shock at the death of popular singer Ayub Bachchu.
They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
The mortal remains of Ayub Bachchu will be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar from 10:30am to 12:30am on Friday, so that his fans and people from all walks of life can pay their last respects.
The first namaz-e-janaza of Ayub Bachchu will be held at Jatiya Eidgah after Jummah prayers on Friday and he will be buried at his family graveyard in Chittagong on Saturday after his son and daughter, who are now staying abroad, return, said Nasiruddin Yussuf Bachchu.
