Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s four central leaders on Sunday submitted their resignation letters to the party secretary general over their disapproval of the newly-formed convening committees of the district and city units of the party’s youth front Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal.
The party’s executive council member and Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury along with another executive council member Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury and central small-loan affair assistant secretary Abdur Razzak submitted their resignation letters in person to the party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul in Dhaka Sunday morning.
The central voluntary affair assistant secretary Shamsuzzaman Zaman also submitted his resignation letter but was not present in person during the submission.
Fakhrul, aware of the crisis, did not accept the letters and asked them to work sincerely for the party, Mayor Arif told New Age.
Arif also said that they withdrew their resignation letters upon assurance from the general secretary to resolve the crisis.
On Friday, Juba Dal central committee president Saiful Alam Nirab and general secretary Sutan Salauddin Tuku approved Sylhet district and city units’ convening committees.
A faction of the local Juba Dal activists, who did not get positions in the convening committees, rejected the newly formed committees.
They also declared to resign en masse if fresh committees were not formed immediately after dissolving the recently-declared committees.
On Saturday, Arif, Shahriar and Abdur Razzak also extended their support to the agitated Juba Dal activists and announced that they would resign from the party as their opinions were discounted in the formation of the convening committees.
